HGV Driver Companion is not a tachograph. It is a personal logging and planning tool. Your digital tachograph, driver card and employer records remain your legal record of driving and working time.
1. Rules the app follows
| Rule | What the app checks |
|---|---|
| EU Regulation 561/2006 (retained in UK law) | 4h30 driving before a break; 45-minute or split 15 + 30 breaks; 9h daily driving, extendable to 10h twice a week; 56h weekly and 90h fortnightly driving; 11h daily rest, reducible to 9h up to three times between weekly rests; 13h and 15h spread |
| Road Transport (Working Time) Regulations 2005 | 60h maximum working week; 48h average over a fixed or rolling 17-week reference period; breaks after 6h and 9h of work |
2. Limitations
- Calculations use only the times you enter or confirm. The app does not read your tachograph or driver card.
- Motion detection during a break is a helpful prompt, not proof of driving or rest.
- The app does not cover every exception, for example ferry and train crossings, emergencies under Article 12, multi-manning, or national derogations.
- Night work limits and collective or workforce agreements may differ for your employer.
- Pay estimates are for checking your payslip only and are not tax advice.
3. Your responsibility
You remain responsible for complying with drivers' hours and working time rules and for keeping accurate records. If the app and your tachograph disagree, your tachograph record applies. For official guidance see GOV.UK drivers' hours.
4. No liability for penalties
To the extent permitted by law, AnnMar Limited is not liable for fines, penalties, prohibitions or loss of earnings resulting from reliance on the app's calculations.
5. Not affiliated
AnnMar Limited is not affiliated with or endorsed by the DVSA, the Department for Transport or any tachograph manufacturer.
